Mary McDonnell

Mary McDonnell is a two-time Oscar(r)-nominated actress she is well-known for her character roles in both contemporary and period screen roles, and many films and stage roles. Mary Eileen McDonnell is a Pennsylvania-born actress. She was the child of Eileen (Mundy) who was an American computer consultant from Ireland, and John McDonnell. Raised in Ithaca, New York, she graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) in Fredonia. She then attended drama school and was then accepted into the Long Wharf Theatre Company (East Coast). She was just 22 when she got her first film role in Dances with Wolves (1990) in which she was "Stands with a Fist", a Sioux Indian woman that is white. The first time she received an Academy Award nomination was for the role. McDonnell has been in the Lawrence Kasdan films Grand Canyon (1991), and Mumford (1999) alongside such experienced actors as Robert Redford and Sidney Poitier. She also appeared in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day (1996), with Will Smith. Margin Call (2011) which was against Kevin Spacey, earned McDonnell the Robert Altman award at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards. McDonnell was a regular on the Syfy Network's award-winning show Battlestar Galactica (2004), which was highly praised for her performance as the President Laura Roslin. The role she played as a frequent guest a host on the television show ER (1994) was rewarded with an Emmy nomination. TNT's acclaimed drama series Major Crimes (2012) features McDonnell as Captain Sharon Raydor. This is the sequel to The Closer (2005) in which McDonnell developed the role. McDonnell was nominated for an Primetime Emmy(r). She garnered an Best Actress Academy Award(r) nomination and a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as an actor with paraplegia on soap opera in John Sayles's critically acclaimed film, Passion Fish (1992).

   Suzanne Pleshette, born January 31, 1937, passed away on January 19th 2008. She was an American voice actress, actor film, and television actor. Pleshette began her acting career in the theater and was a part of films in the 1950s and later. Alona Tal, an Israeli-American actress and singer was born on the 20th of October 20th, 1983, in Herzliya, Israel. She started her career after she served in the Israeli Defense Forces.
